The Budget Control System

This work was derived from a request for Software Science to comment on other consultants work that this government department had had carried out, as we are known for our complete impartiality.

We thought that the work being asked for was well within our remit, so a comment at the bottom remarked 'we would be very happy to quote for this work.'

From this 'off the cuff' remark, we were given the opportunity to analyse and quote for the whole project.

A synopsis of this system is noted below:

The corporate Finance system, Sun Accounts, did not provide adequate Budget Management features

We provided a Budget Control system to overcome these limitations

Built around definable Business Models, the system provides capture of Budgets based on historical and projected information, as well as 'Head Count' and cash based forecasting against those budgets

Powered by a Financial Data repository, information is gathered from disparate systems, allowing users to view and incorporate transactions from the Sun Accounts ledgers into their Budgets and Monthly forecasts

Sophisticated Financial Intelligence capabilities are provided through component based Reporting Wizards and OLAP client tools

Exploitation of SQL Server's OLAP Engine provides rapid interactive exploration of data without requiring predefined queries

This large system was carried out on time and on budget, which we as a company were very pleased about in light of all the bad press that a lot of IT contracts get when they go over budget!
